FAQ
Common questions
Is InstaResizer really free?+
Yes — resizing, compressing, and converting images is always 100% free with no signup required. Background removal is free once per day. Pro ($4.99/mo) unlocks 50 BG removals/month (credits reset monthly, no rollover), batch processing up to 50 images at once, ZIP download, Metadata Stripping (removes hidden location & phone data), white background tool, and an ad-free experience.
What image sizes and platforms do you support?+
We have presets for all major platforms — Instagram (1080×1080 square, 1080×1350 portrait, 1080×1920 Stories/Reels), Facebook & LinkedIn (1200×630 link preview, 1200×1200 square), YouTube thumbnails (1280×720), Pinterest pins (1000×1500), TikTok/Snapchat (1080×1920), and universal profile photos (400×400). Just click any preset and download. Use Fit mode to preserve your full image with a white background, or Fill mode to crop to exact dimensions.
What is Fit vs Fill mode?+
Fit scales your image to fill the full width of the preset while keeping the full image visible — white background fills any remaining space. Fill crops your image from the center to exactly match the preset dimensions. Fit is best when you don't want anything cut off. Fill is best for profile photos and square posts where you want the image to fill the frame completely.
Can I process multiple images at once?+
Pro users can batch up to 50 images for all tools at once and download them all as a ZIP file. Batch mode is available on Resize, Compress, and Convert. Free users process one image at a time using the single image tool.
What is Metadata Stripping and why do I need it?+
Every photo taken on a phone or camera contains hidden metadata — including your exact GPS location, phone model, and the date and time the photo was taken. When you upload product photos to Amazon, Etsy, or other marketplaces, this data goes with them — potentially exposing your home address. Pro users can strip this hidden data with one click before downloading, protecting their privacy automatically.
What's the difference between JPG, PNG, and WebP?+
JPG is best for photos — smaller file sizes with great quality. PNG is lossless and best for logos, graphics, and images with transparent backgrounds, but produces larger files for photos. WebP is the modern web format — typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality, and supported by all major browsers and social platforms. When in doubt, use WebP for web use and JPG for everything else.
Does my photo get uploaded to your servers?+
Almost never. Resizing, compressing, converting, and Metadata Stripping all happen entirely in your browser — your photos never leave your device. The only exception is AI background removal, which sends your image to our processing partner (Photoroom) and deletes it immediately after. We never store your images.
What image formats are supported?+
We support JPG, PNG, WEBP, and HEIC (the format iPhone cameras use) as inputs. You can convert between JPG, PNG, and WEBP using the Convert tab. All outputs are available as JPG or PNG depending on the tool.
Why does Instagram make my photos look blurry?+
Instagram recompresses any image over 1MB when you upload. By pre-resizing and compressing with InstaResizer first at 85%, you control the quality — and your photos look noticeably sharper in the feed.
What e-commerce platforms do you support?+
Pro users get presets for Amazon (2000×2000), Shopify (2048×2048), Etsy (2000×2000), eBay (1600×1600), Facebook Shop (1024×1024), Pinterest (1000×1500), and WooCommerce (800×800) — all pre-sized to each platform's exact requirements. Batch process up to 50 product images at once and download as a ZIP.

Reference Guide

Social Media Image Requirements Guide

Exact dimensions for every platform — updated April 2026. Know what to upload before you upload it.

💡 Why do white bars appear on my resized image? White padding appears when your photo's shape doesn't match the target format. Each platform has a preferred aspect ratio — the ratio of width to height. When your photo is a different shape, the resizer fits it inside the frame and fills the gaps with white. The fix: crop your photo to the right ratio before uploading. Your phone's Photos app has built-in crop ratio presets for exactly this. Each section below lists the ratio to use.
📸

Instagram

Most used platform
Square Post
1080 × 1080px
Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square)
Crop to: square before uploading
Portrait Post
1080 × 1350px
Aspect ratio: 4:5 (portrait)
Crop to: 4:5 before uploading
Stories & Reels
1080 × 1920px
Aspect ratio: 9:16 (tall portrait)
Crop to: 9:16 before uploading
Profile Picture
320 × 320px
Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square)
Displayed at 110×110 — upload at 320px for sharpness
Best format: JPG for photos, PNG for graphics with text. Keep file size under 8MB.

💡 Stories & Reels tip: These are 9:16 — the opposite of a typical landscape photo (16:9). A standard widescreen photo will have heavy white bars top and bottom. In your phone's Photos app, crop to 9:16 first, then upload. Alternatively, use Fill mode in InstaResizer to auto-crop to the frame.

Instagram compression: Instagram recompresses uploads over 1MB. Pre-resize and compress to 85% quality with InstaResizer first — your photos will look noticeably sharper in the feed.

Facebook

Most formats
Feed Post (Landscape)
1200 × 630px
Aspect ratio: ~1.91:1
Crop to: wide landscape
Feed Post (Square)
1200 × 1200px
Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square)
Crop to: square
Story
1080 × 1920px
Aspect ratio: 9:16 (tall portrait)
Crop to: 9:16 before uploading
Cover Photo
1640 × 624px
Aspect ratio: ~2.63:1 (very wide)
Crop to: wide panoramic
Profile Picture
400 × 400px
Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square)
Displayed as circle — center your subject
Best format: JPG for photos, PNG for graphics. Keep under 8MB.

💡 Story tip: Facebook Stories are 9:16 — the same as Instagram Stories. A landscape photo (like a 3840×2160 camera shot) is 16:9, which is the exact opposite ratio. This will produce very heavy white padding top and bottom. Crop to 9:16 in your phone's Photos app first, or use Fill mode to auto-crop.

Cover photo tip: The cover photo ratio is very wide (~2.63:1). Panoramic landscape shots work best. Standard photos will have significant padding on the sides — crop to a very wide crop in your Photos app before uploading.

Crop to: 9:16 before uploading
Profile Picture
200 × 200px
Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square)
Displayed as circle
💡 TikTok tip: TikTok is almost entirely 9:16 vertical. If you're shooting on a phone in portrait mode, you're already in the right ratio. Landscape or square photos will have significant padding — crop to 9:16 first or use Fill mode.

Thumbnails matter most
Video Thumbnail
1280 × 720px
Aspect ratio: 16:9 (landscape)
Crop to: 16:9 wide landscape
Channel Banner
2560 × 1440px
Aspect ratio: 16:9
Safe zone: center 1546×423px
Profile Picture
800 × 800px
Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square)
Displayed as circle
Thumbnail tip: YouTube thumbnails are 16:9 — the same ratio as most camera and phone landscape photos. If you shoot landscape, your photo is already the right shape. Portrait photos will have padding on the sides — crop to 16:9 before uploading.

Channel banner tip: The banner displays differently on TV, desktop, tablet, and mobile. Keep your important content (logo, text) in the center safe zone of 1546×423px. The outer areas may be cropped on smaller screens.

Twitter / X

Wide landscape

Aspect ratio: 16:9 (landscape)
Crop to: 16:9 wide landscape

Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square)
Displayed as circle
Header / Banner
1500 × 500px
Aspect ratio: 3:1 (very wide)
Crop to: wide panoramic
💡 Post image tip: Twitter/X crops feed images to 16:9 in the timeline. Portrait photos get heavily cropped — only the center strip shows. For the best result, use a 16:9 landscape crop before posting, or your subject may be cut off.

Pinterest

Tall pins perform best
Standard Pin
1000 × 1500px
Aspect ratio: 2:3 (portrait)
Crop to: 2:3 portrait
Square Pin
1000 × 1000px
Aspect ratio: 1:1 (square)
Crop to: square
Long Pin
1000 × 2100px
Aspect ratio: ~1:2.1 (very tall)
Crop to: tall vertical crop
💡 Pinterest tip: Pinterest's feed shows tall images larger — a 2:3 pin takes up more screen space than a square pin, which means more visibility and saves. Standard landscape photos (16:9) will have heavy padding top and bottom — crop to 2:3 portrait for the best result. Unlike most platforms, text overlays on Pinterest pins are encouraged — a title or brief description in the image increases saves and clicks.

Banner / Cover
1584 × 396px
Aspect ratio: 4:1 (very wide)
Crop to: panoramic wide
Best format: JPG or PNG, under 5MB.

💡 Banner tip: LinkedIn's banner is extremely wide (4:1). Very few photos are naturally this shape — you'll almost always need to crop to a wide panoramic strip or create a custom banner graphic.
